No poema, primeiro vem o sentido e dele nascem as palavras ou as palavras insinuam-se e o sentido vem depois?
***
A word is
a unit of language,
one or more spoken sounds;
they are carriers
of meaning.
Four words: “Hands up, don’t shoot,”
the catalyst for broadcasting and debate;
but words are more than revolutions,
they are knives,
they are bullets,
they are bombs.
More words: “What do we want? Dead cops!
When do we want them? Now!”
they spell murder,
and destruction,
and define broken hearts and
demolished families.
Two minutes of word:
an iconic speech;
empowering, giving permission
for two races
to spell hope.
Voiceless words: the girl in the back
of the class who
presses the words
from her heart into the paper;
the pain she feels
stops her from hurting herself
the way the words of others
hurt her.
Silent words: tongues don’t
have bones, and
words don’t
have physical strength,
yet they decimate
and save
with equal power.
Defined words: words are
a unit of language,
one or more spoken sounds;
they are carriers
of meaning.
But as we know,
they are much more than that.
