All of his life, David has been a farmer. His entire family are also farmers, and for the last several decades, they have been working together on a farm.
Yet, an ancestor had sold off their 80-acre farm to a relative who did not have their best interest in mind, and this left David and the rest of the family devastated. The whole ordeal was entirely legal, but it wasn’t any less painful for them.
They were not about to quit. Knowing the farming business very well, they were aware that sooner or later the farm would go on sale, probably on an auction. The family gathered all the money they had and decided to try and buy back the farm when the farm was put on sale again several years later.
On the day of the auction, when David and his father arrived at the farm, there were 200 other farmers already there. They were devastated. Considering the competition and the little money they had, it didn’t look like they could buy back their farm.
