Respondi ao inquérito que aparece no fim da mensagem. A última pergunta que fazem é: o que poderia o Secretário Geral fazer para lidar com os problemas de que fala o inquérito (desigualdade, acesso à saúde e educação, ambiente, conflitos, etc.) A minha proposta (que não dá para escrever ali como deve ser) é reescrever a Carta no sentido de a completar e distribuir tarefas, rotativamente, pelos países/nações de maneira a responsabilizá-los pelos princípios e objectivos que assinam na Carta. Isto tem outras possibilidades, até ao nível dos governos, que podiam ser incentivadas pela Organização. Enfim, há muita coisa que podia fazer-se e não percebo porque não as fazem.
On this day, 75 years ago, diplomats from 50 countries signed the United Nations Charter in San Francisco, California. The Charter enshrined the equality and dignity of all humans at the heart of the UN.
Since then, the UN has worked to drive global progress and tackle urgent problems on all fronts -- from health and development, to human rights and equality, to peace and security.
Today’s historic anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on how far we’ve come, take stock of where we are, and recommit to the important work that lies ahead to make sure we realize the values enshrined in the Charter.
